Wedding Cake Traditions

Wedding cakes were not always the beautifully creations that we love today.  Wedding cakes have traditions have evolved through the centuries.  Wedding cake dates back to ancient times, along with strange traditions.  Romans were the first to back the cakes out of wheat; however Roman wedding cakes weren’t for eating but for breaking over the bride’s heads.  –the groom will broke the cake over the bride’s head and the guests gathered up the crumbs as tokens of good luck.

 

In the middle ages the wedding cake, well they were actually sticky buns, symbolized the bride’s popularity ad guest will bring the different tiers of the cake.  They will then get piled on top of each other using apple sauce; the couple will then kiss over the stack –which resulted in trampled and dirty buns for the guest to ear.


By the 1800’s fruit cakes were introduce by the Pilgrims, and rain until recently replace by the couples favorite flavors and fillings.

 

The wedding cake ceremony is created to the Greeks, it’s intended for the couple to cut and share the cake to ensure a happy and fertile marriage.
