What Are The Groom’s Traditional Responsibilities?

Although the final decision depends on the individual, and the groom is expected to weigh in on the various decisions that come with general wedding planning, the list of responsibilities that traditionally fall under the groom are as follows:

  • Selecting the engagement ring
  • Choosing his groomsmen, best man, and ushers
  • Choosing attire for himself and his wedding party
  • Choosing a gift for the bride
  • Compiling his guest list, including his parent’s additions
  • Planning the honeymoon
  • Choosing his wedding band
  • Arranging wedding transportation from the ceremony to the reception site
  • Paying the officiant
  • Buying the marriage license
  • Making toasts at the reception
  • Cutting the cake with the bride
  • Dancing the first dance with the bride
    Dancing with the couple’s mothers
